How to decorate your wheelchair
When I was choosing my wheelchair, I didn't know what I needed. And it doesn't matter that I had some experience as an occupational therapist. Because giving advice is easy. But it was different when I was the one who would use the chair. And really, 5 years ago, I did not think about how my wheelchair would look. I wanted to have a comfortable, easy-to-handle wheelchair built for a tetraplegic.
Only recently have I begun to think, that perhaps the time has come, for my wheelchair to be “renovated” and to improve how it looks. And while I only use three things to make it attractive, people really notice.
Only recently have I begun to think, that perhaps the time has come, for my wheelchair to be “renovated” and to improve how it looks. And while I only use three things to make it attractive, people really notice.
1. First of all, I put on the pink "spoke wraps" called "seksi spokes" by Rahadesign on the spokes of the wheels. And when I did, I received many compliments and curious glances. It's a really inexpensive and easy way to make your wheelchair attractive.
2. Then the second thing, I got a gift, matching pink push rim covers. They were bright and beautiful and together with the matching Seksi Spokes, made my wheelchair look new. Push rim covers can be ordered to match with "seksi spokes", a backpack or the wheelchair frame color.
Some people call my wheelchair girly or barbie, but I don't care because it's very beautiful. And most
Some people call my wheelchair girly or barbie, but I don't care because it's very beautiful. And most
importantly, it is not very expensive. I like it and I enjoy feeling like I have a new wheelchair.
3. Then third, I added Wheelchair Skins, a retro-reflective sticker which makes my wheelchair look amazing in the day or night.
Of course, there are other ways to decorate a wheelchair. So what can be done to make your wheelchair look different? :
1. Repaint it. The truth is, I haven't done it myself and I don't even have any friends who have tried it, but I know it is possible and I have read about it in forums. Some recommend to you leave this job to professional others say you just spray the wheelchair frame with spray paint.
2. Vinyl wrapping. I think it would be difficult to do it unless you have experience. It would probably be better to leave it to a professional. But this would be another way to change the color of the wheelchair frame. But Wheelchair Skins are very easy to apply.
3. Spoke protectors/guards. Spoke guards protect against finger trapping but also add protection to the wheel also they make a great addition to any wheelchair.
4. Glitter, stickers. Perhaps women would use such decorations more than men. Various beads, sequins, stickers, appliqués can be used to decorate the back of the wheelchair, frame or etc. It's easy to do it by yourself and inexpensive.
5. Lights, reflectors. The lights can be mounted under the wheelchair seat, on the back or on the tire
valves. Reflectors on spokes will not only protect you during the dark hours but will also decorate your wheels. They are beautiful and safe.
6. Accessories such as a backpack or a cushion cover can also enhance the look of the wheelchair.
7. Custom wheelchair. Of course, if you have a lot of money, you can order whatever you want.
But choosing to make a custom wheelchair will give you many options to choose from. And such a
wheelchair will be unique. There are no such custom wheelchair manufacturers in my country. So, I would have to order from abroad, but what about your country?
And don't forget a smile, it's the most beautiful accessory.
