Review of "Gator gloves" Quadriplegic Wheelchair Gloves

I use them every day, mostly when I am outdoors, driving my car, or even at work. I  don’t need them at home, and I can't even explain why. Just when I get home I take them off and I don’t need them until I go somewhere again. I can’t say that I’ve tried many wheelchair gloves and that I’m an expert in this area, but I know what I like. I have had some which were made by my sister that I liked and they fit me. But they stretch very quickly and the velcro won't stick and they just take-off of the hand without sticking them. 

I had the opportunity to test Rehadesign "Gator Gloves" and "Flexi-fit" gloves. I immediately liked "Gator Gloves" more and I haven’t changed my mind so far. I don't wear them in winter, I saved them for spring-summer seasons because I didn’t know how fast they could wear out. I liked them because they are so strong, hold well on the hands and grab the push rims very well. True, I mostly use them outdoors. And as I mentioned I’m not a very active person and I don’t run marathons, so "Gator Gloves" serve me perfectly and look very good. When I first got them, they seemed somewhat stiff. And this might be a problem for Tetraplegics with very limited hand movement.  But the leather softened as I wore them, and they are no longer hard. In fact, they are quite soft (as you can see in the video)  but still fit very well to the hand. The grip material that improves the grip on the push rim on the palm of the gloves also did not wear out. I wash that part of the gloves with wet wipes or a little water to keep them clean and again everything is like new. 

I can't speak for all tetraplegics, but for me, they’re great for riding. Yes, I don’t have grip as other tetraplegics have, some of my fingers are straight, and only 3 fingers bend. So these gloves are perfect for my hand, they don't press anywhere. Recently I bought an electric handbike which I use it for long distances, so I may not wear gloves at all. But as long as I use Gator gloves when riding the wheelchair by myself, it won’t wear them out for long and I will use them definitely not half a year. 

I drive the car with other gloves, with a thin, soft one and sometimes I forget to change them to Gator gloves when I get out of the car, it happens in any way. But I really try not to forget and if I know I’m going for a ride I’ll put them on right away. And now that the leather becomes softer I like it even more. 

Of course, paraplegics wearing gloves will wear them much faster, especially if they live an active lifestyle. It can also be for tetraplegics, if you travel long distances, enjoy active leisure you don't need to expect that gloves will last as long as any other frequently used item. 

Choosing the right gloves is an expensive “pleasure” because buying new gloves will not necessarily make them fit and meet your expectations. But if you’ve tried a lot of gloves and haven’t tried these Rehadesign gator gloves - I suggest you try. Maybe it will be suitable and pleasing for you.

Aš pirštines naudoju kiekvieną dieną, dažniausiai būdama lauke, vairuodama mašiną ar net darbe. Man jų nereikia tik namuose ir net negaliu paaiškinti, kodėl. Kai tik grįžtu namo, aš pirštines nusiimu ir man jų nereikia, kol vėl kažkur važiuoju. 

Negaliu pasakyti, kad išbandžiau daugybę pirštinių skirtų neįgaliesiems ir kad esu šios srities ekspertė, tačiau žinau, kas man patinka. Turėjau tokių, kurias pasiuvo sesuo, kurios man patika ir tinka. Bet jos išsitampo labai greitai, o lipnūs užsegimai nebelimpa ir pirštinės tiesiog nusimauna nuo rankos. Prieš kurį laiką turėjau galimybę išbandyti Rehadesign "Gator“ pirštines ir „Flexi-fit“ pirštines. Man iškart labiau patiko „Gator“ pirštinės ir aš iki šiol nepakeičiau savo nuomonės. Aš jų nenešiojau žiemą, taupiau pavasario-vasaros sezonams, nes nežinojau, kaip greitai jos gali nusidėvėti. Man šios pirštinės patiko, nes yra tokios tvirtos, gerai priglunda prie rankos ir labai gerai sukimba su stūmimo lankais. Tiesa, dažniausiai pirštines naudoju lauke. Ir kaip jau minėjau, nesu labai aktyvus žmogus ir nevažiuoju maratonų, todėl „Gator" pirštinės man puikiai tarnauja ir net panešiojus atrodo labai gerai. Kai pirmą kartą jas gavau, atrodė šiek tiek per kietos, pet tvirtos. Tai gali sukelti sunkumų tetraplegikams, kurių pirštų judesiai labai riboti. Bet oda suminkštėjo nuo nešiojimo ir jos nebėra tokios kietos. Tiesą sakant, pirštinės tapo gana minkštos (kaip matote vaizdo įraše), tačiau vis tiek labai gerai glunda prie rankos. Medžiaga, esanti ant delno, kuri pagerina sukibimą su stūmimo lankais, taip pat nenusidėvėjo. Aš nuplaunu tą pirštinių dalį drėgnomis servetėlėmis ar trupučiu vandens, kad jos būtų švarios ir vėl viskas atrodo kaip nauja.

Žinoma aš negaliu kalbėti už visus tetraplegikus, bet man šios pirštinės puikiai tinka. Taip, aš neturiu tokios funkcinės plaštakos padėties (gripo), kaip turi kiti tetraplegikai, beveik visi mano pirštai yra tiesūs ir tik 3 pirštai sulenkti. Taigi šios pirštinės puikiai tinka mano rankai, jos niekur nespaudžia. Neseniai nusipirkau elektrinį varytuvą, kurį naudoju ilgiems atstumams, todėl galiu visai nenešioti pirštinių. Bet tiek kiek aš naudosiu pirštines kai pačiai reiks stumtis tol jos ilgai nenusidėvės ir tikrai naudosiu jas ilgiau nei pusę metų.

Aš vairuoju automobilį su kitomis pirštinėmis ir kartais, kai išlipu iš automobilio, pamirštu jas pakeisti į „Gator“ pirštines, būna visaip. Bet tikrai stengiuosi nepamiršti ir, jei žinau, kad teks pačiai stumtis, aš jas iškart užsidedu. O dabar, kai pirštinių oda tapo minkštesnė, man jos dar labiau patinka.

Žinoma, pirštines dėvintys paraplegikai jas sunešios daug greičiau, ypač jei jie gyvena aktyvų gyvenimo būdą. Taip gali būti ir tetraplegikams, ypač jei keliaujate didelius atstumus, mėgaujatės aktyviu laisvalaikiu, nereikia tikėtis, kad pirštinės tarnaus taip ilgai, kaip bet kuris kitas dažnai naudojamas daiktas.

Tinkamų pirštinių pasirinkimas yra gana brangus malonumas, nes perkant naujas pirštines jos nebūtinai tiks  ir atitiks jūsų lūkesčius. Bet jei jūs išbandėte daug pirštinių ir dar neišbandėte šių „Gator“ pirštinių - siūlau išbandyti. Gal jums jos tiks ir patiks.
