I work as an Occupational Therapist in the largest hospital in my country. Because of the fact that I am a hospital employee I was one of the first in line to get vaccinated for Covid. I received my first vaccine on January 6, 2021 and my second vaccine on Janury 27 and felt that I was good to go. It was the Pfizer vaccine so I felt confident and safe. But then on March 16 I started to feel a sore throat, fever, runny nose. Then, because I lost my smell and taste I got tested for COVID. The test results came back positive! I'm not scared, I just got upset because I was 100% sure I wouldn't get sick after the vaccination. And I was worried about the health of family members, especially moms and grandmothers, because they have chronic illnesses.

Everyone asks where I could have gotten infected? I don't know. Maybe in the store, at work or maybe from relatives (uncle, aunt, cousin because they got sick at a similar time). I didn’t care much about what I would get infected from, but how to recover faster and not infect others.

What were my symptoms? Sore throat for 4-5 days, headache and drowsiness for a couple of days, low temperature only for one evening, stuffed nose, lost taste and smell, general weakness. As many say it is an easy form of covid. I am feeling better, at least good enough to write this article. But I still have some of the symptoms, and the doctor says I can feel them for up to three more months. My consultation with my doctor took place over the phone. I had to tell her everything and the doctor advised me how to relieve some of the symptoms. Also she explained to me that 10 days after the first symptoms I can no longer infect other people and my isolation must continue until March 26th. If I feel good after that, I can return to a normal life, taking care of my health and doing all the activities in „lighter mode“.

Things wouldn’t be bad if I lived alone. but there are four more people in my home. A week after my first symptoms my mother became ill, and after three days my father also felt the symptoms (they had COVID tests on March 26th, and they are positive). My brother also get tested and it’s negative. My mother is the most sick, she has a lot of pain all over her body. She says that it feels like every bone and muscle is broken. Also she has a temperature of 38 C (100.4 F) and she can do nothing except lie in bed.

Even though I did not escape getting sick, I think the vaccine helped me to have a less severe form of covid. Therefore, I think the vaccination was worthwhile.

What can I advise to you? Get vaccinated as soon as possible. You may not avoid COVID. But you will avoid a serious illness. If you experience symptoms, test and isolate immediately. Drink plenty of fluids until you get your test results, Contact your family doctor if you test positive. Avoid contact with other family members (do not eat together, keep separate towels in the bathroom), wash and disinfect hands, ventilate rooms.

Be to, ji man paaiškino, kad praėjus 10 dienų po pirmųjų simptomų aš nebegaliu užkrėsti kitų žmonių ir mano izoliacija turi tęstis iki kovo 26 d.

Be to, jai temperatūra pakyla iki 38 C ir ji neturi jėgų ką nors daryti išskyrus gulėti lovoje.

Nors man nepavyko nesusirgti, manau, kad vakcina padėjo man sirgti ne tokia sunkia covid forma. Todėl manau, kad skiepytis buvo verta.

Ką galėčiau jums patarti? Kuo greičiau pasiskiepyti Gal ir neišvengsite covid viruso, tačiau tikėtina, kad persirgsite lengvesne forma. Jei pasireiškia simptomai, nedelsdami testuokitės ir izoliuokitės. Gerkite daug skysčių, kol gausite testo rezultatus. Jei rezultatai bus teigiami, susisiekite su savo šeimos gydytoju. Venkite kontakto su kitais šeimos nariais (nevalgykite kartu, vonioje naudokite atskirus rankšluosčius ir t.t.), plaukite ir dezinfekuokite rankas, vėdinkite kambarius.
